Adventure Kayak Intermediate Lesson Package - All Equipment Provided

Overview - Students Please Bookmark This Page For Future Reference

Our Adventure Kayaking Intermediate Lesson Package offers 3 challenging and structured 3-hour lessons for students who have completed our Adventure Kayaking Beginner Lesson Package LINK and wish to advance further with their paddling and prepare themselves with the skills necessary to head out into open water or potentially windy or choppy conditions wearing a sprayskirt. We'll introduce you to open water kayaks - also called sea kayaks - that are narrower and geared more toward efficiency and feature skegs or rudders to deal with windier conditions. We'll teach you all about wearing a sprayskirt and help you improve your self and assisted rescue skills, as well as your advanced strokes and maneuvers. You have up to two years to complete the three lessons. Kayak, paddle, pfd, skirt, and rescue equipment are provided. Read all of the individual course descriptions, location info, and what to bring below.

Lessons 4-6 Descriptions

Lesson 4: Sprayskirts Wet Exits and Bow Rescues

Wearing a spray skirt keeps the water out of the kayak and the heat in and gives kayakers an advantage in the event of an accidental capsize. Spraykirts add another dimension of safety awareness and this 3-hour lesson will teach you how to stay calm once capsized and how to comfortably exit by pulling the grab loop. Once you're oriented to these skills, you'll practice rescuing with a partner without exiting the kayak, which is a building block for eventually learning to roll.
