The Potomac River has great waves to surf your kayak on including the Maryland Chute Wave near Old Angler's Inn. You can learn to front surf a kayak, back surf a kayak, and side surf a kayak simply by practicing your ferries with a qualified instructor giving you good kayak surfing tips. To learn to front surf, practice jet ferries across current, to learn to back surf, practice back ferries. A great tip to learn to spin your kayak on a wave is to look upstream as you begin to spin. These are the basics of surfing a whitewater kayak on a wave. Take lessons, watch playboating and kayak surfing instructional DVDs, and paddle with friendly and safe surf kayakers who are better than you. The Potomac River is a great place to surf waves in your kayak!
