Overview
During this fun-filled week, beginner kayakers will develop a solid foundation for whitewater kayaking:
1. Proper equipment fit
2. Proper boat outfitting
3. Comfort underwater
4. Exiting the kayak
5. Rolling the kayak
6. Basic strokes
7. Basic river maneuvers
Each day serves as a building block for the next with a strong emphasis on safety awareness, outdoor leadership, and conservation. Our instructors are mature, caring professionals who specialize in creating a safe, friendly environment for beginners. Daily workouts will develop skills quickly. Once teen "Patrollers" show a moderate degree of proficiency and comfort, we'll be paddling in class II-III whitewater and learning to surf standing waves. Level 1 also teaches documentary skills with the use of video and still cameras. Each Patroller will keep a logbook of their experiences and the group will post updates to their own internet blog. Camps run from Monday through Friday, from 9am - 3pm each day. All equipment is provided. Lunch should be brought in a waterproof drybag.
See below for camp dates and details.
