Overview
The British Canoe Union (BCU) has an international reputation as one of kayaking's top certification programs. The BCU 3-Star is an intermediate assessment course that will focus on stroke and technique refinement. Individuals who successfully pass the assessment will receive the BCU 3-Star Award and will then be regarded as intermediate paddlers.
3-Star candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of sea kayaking concepts, strokes, and techniques. Students will be assessed on their ability to choose and execute the most efficient and appropriate strokes or maneuvers for various goals on flatwater. Students will also be evaluated on basic rescue skills. Successful completion of the assessment will be dependent on these skills as well as confidence in the boat and comfort on edge.
Courses will be held on the Chesapeake Bay in flat to moderately rough water and will be coached by Tom Nickels, BCU Coach Level 3-Sea. This module offers one 7 hour assessment. Successful completion of the assessment awards a BCU 3-Star rating.
